As part of Chessfest 2019, we have two talented chess minstrels who will be sharing another kind of chess score.
On Saturday June 1, CIC chess instructor and Toronto musician Cameron James Roberston will be performing some chess songs and sing-alongs on Saturday at 2 pm and 4 pm in the Chessfest greenspace.
On Sunday June 2, we’ll have Mateo Lewis performing his own chess songs and sing-alongs.
Mateo is fresh off his second year at Sheridan College for Music Theatre. Recent credits include, for Bryant Productions: Secret Garden (Dickon). For Encores by Encore: Into the Woods (Jack). For Mainstage Theatre: Rent (Mark Cohen), Anything Goes (Billy Crocker). For Bravo Academy: Packed (Devin), School of Rock (Dewey Finn). Mateo wrote Book, Music + Lyrics for BOYS DON’T CRY, a new musical which will be premiering at the Toronto Fringe Festival this summer!
Boys Don’t Cry: Fresh off a workshop production at the Red Sandcastle Theatre last summer, Boys Don’t Cry follows Jayden Stone, a quirky, demure teenager trying to live up to the memory of his late father. When he falls in love with the new girl at school (a badass feminist with a passion for poetry and social justice) he is forced to reevaluate what it means to be a man. Award-winning young songwriter Mateo Lewis explores his complicated relationship with gender in this semi-autobiographical musical coming-of-age story.
