The Canadian Youth Chess Championship just wrapped up in Hamilton, Ontario, immediately followed by the Canadian Open Chess Championship, which is continuing until July 17.

Over two dozen of our students and tournament attendees participated in the Youth Championship. We are proud of everyone who competed in this seven-round classical Swiss tournament, and we’d like to mention a few for their accomplishments.

Nolan Wu, Neil Moses, Noah Velasquez, Aiden Lu,  and Daniel Davydov performed admirably in the Under 12 Open Section, among others.

In the Under 12 Girls Section we were well-represented by long-time CIC student Alexa Roque.

We congratulate one of our online participants, Calix Marchand, winning the Under 10 Open section with a perfect score!

A special mention goes out to Chelcea Zhang, who competed in the Under 8 Girls section, for participating in her first major tournament!

Some of our more advanced students opted to play in the Open section, including Bhavik Chhatralia, Neil Moses and Jonath Joseph. There, they might have to face one of CIC’s strongest instructors, FIDE Master Terry Song.

Congratulations and good luck to all!
