Ontario Trillium Foundation

Chess Institute of Canada gratefully acknowledges the generous support of the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF), whose $282,000 Grow Grant is enabling CIC to teach vital life skills through in-class chess education to 1,400 elementary students in six of Toronto District School Board’s Model Schools, over a three-year period. Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) is an agency of the Government of Ontario and one of Canada’s leading granting foundations, investing in communities to build healthy and vibrant neighbourhoods province-wide. This funding reflects OTF’s commitment to equity and access, ensuring that the cognitive, social, and academic benefits of chess are available to all young Canadians, regardless of their economic circumstances. CIC is very proud to partner with OTF in making a meaningful, long-lasting impact in Toronto’s underserved communities. Sienna for Seniors Foundation

Chess Institute of Canada is very grateful for the generous support of the Sienna for Seniors Foundation, whose $15,000 grant is making it possible to deliver engaging chess programming to seniors across Toronto. Chess is a powerful tool for cognitive wellness, social connection, and mental stimulation—benefits that are especially meaningful for older adults.  In partnership with the Toronto Public Library, CIC will be delivering this impactful programming in library branches across the GTA. The Sienna for Seniors Foundation is dedicated to enriching the lives of seniors and supporting initiatives that promote their health, happiness, and dignity. CIC is honoured to help the Foundation bring the joy and challenge of chess to seniors, fostering friendships, and sharpening minds while enjoying one of the world’s most enduring games. To learn more about the Sienna for Seniors Foundation, please visit their website here.

Spirit of Math Central Toronto

CIC gratefully acknowledges a generous $5,000 marketing/research sponsorship from Spirit of Math Central Toronto Campus. This sponsorship is a natural fit, as math and chess have inherent connections and many CIC program attendees are potential students for Spirit of Math’s math enrichment programs. As an innovative leader in after-school mathematics education, Spirit of Math’s 40-campus global community successfully addresses the needs of high-performing downtown Toronto students and their families. The Marvin Rosenhek Community Chess Fund

CIC expresses deep appreciation for the Rosenhek family’s generous creation of a memorial fund in honour of Marvin Rosenhek (1929-2021), a lifelong avid chess player and Montréal lawyer of 65 years. The fund will support school and community educational programs directly. Marvin enjoyed spending time with family, nature, beekeeping, bridge, and spy novels, and continued playing chess with the Canadian Correspondence Chess Association into his nineties. Marvin will be remembered fondly by the CIC community for his passion and dedication to the game.
