A great turnout for girls at our latest PA Day camp!

A strong turnout of girls and young women marked one another great PA Day camp for the Chess Institute of Canada (CIC).

Taking place at 918 Bathurst Street, almost two dozen children took part in games, puzzles and activities, including a a nationally ranked tournament under the supervision of CIC instructors.

“It was great to see a strong turnout of girls to the camp,” said the Chess Institute’s Tournament & Event Specialist, Keith Denning.

The event marks is one of several PA day events for CIC across the school year, covering every PA day for Toronto’s English-language school boards and – as the largest French-language teaching organization in the city – French PA days as well.

“Girls have been traditionally under-represented in chess,” Denning says. “It’s great to see a strong turnout from them. Inspiring role models like female grandmasters, and a strong presence of women instructors on our staff, are leading to positive changes. Chess is for everyone, and girls benefit equally from what chess can teach young people: self-confidence, critical thinking, logic, and much more.”
